If
you are just starting your postage stamp collection, or if you have inherited a
stamp collection from a family member, you will probably at one time, or
another find the excitement that is associated with collecting stamps.
Once
you delve into the hobby you can discover a vast array of designs and images
that can look rather plain and boring to others that are an exceptional work of
art.
Many
stamps that you can purchase either through a dealer, at auctions, garage
sales, or over the internet can be over one hundred years old. It would seem
that something of such antiquity would have more of a value then 30 cents, but
when they are considered so common with the hundreds of millions that were
printed, they just do not hold the same value as a century old automobile,
coin, or piece of furniture.
Each
stamp has is its own intrinsic value because of the era it was printed in, the
purpose the stamp might have been created for and with some incredible designs,
the absolute artistry that was drawn into the image.
There
are a number of stamps you will undoubtedly look for if you receive a stamp
collection from an older family member that had collected stamps for half a
century or so, but it is likely that there are more common stamps in the
collection, or they have already found the valuable ones and cashed in on the
treasure. It is always exciting to keep searching and as time goes on some of
those treasures will show up every now and then.
A
favorite stamp collecting video series of mine on the internet is called
I
had the opportunity to correspond with him via email and I am looking forward
to future stamp videos he will produce. He researches many facts surrounding
the stamps and their place in history. He shares the information in such an
entertaining and educational way that it has encouraged me to share some of the stamps I inherited from my grandfather.
I
hope that you will also find the intrigue in the artistry that went into so
many of these stamps and I hope it will encourage you to discover your
enthusiasm for stamp collecting.
I would like to introduce you to
THE ART OF STAMPS!
Featured stamps
The first row of stamps are an example of stamps that range in age from approximately 102 to 165 years old. They represent the US Airmail, Great Britain, Chile and Jamaica. When you give it a thought, they did not have computers to create digital art for their designs on the stamps at that time. Also, when you consider that the size of the stamps are only approximately 2.2 cm x 3.5 cm, or 3/4 inch x 1-1/4 inch, the detail that the stamp maker had to create is an incredible art form at a miniature level.
There are intricate designs, contrasting shading, portrait quality images,
artistic scenes, depictions of historical events and illustrations portraying a ruling authority over a dominion.

We are working to add more articles about each stamp that will be available soon!
I hope you will enjoy the postage stamp art and the articles that are available for each stamp. I will continue to add more images and content for you to view.

The first stamp is not one that was part of my new stamp collection, but ther is a special reason I have this one in the gallery.
